Do you need a timer for keeping track of your child’s play time on the computer?
How about a stopwatch for a science experiment?
Or do you need an alarm clock to help you remember when to stop homeschooling so that you can go make dinner?
How about “D. All of the above”?
Nowadays, you can find free online timers, stopwatches, alarm clocks and other time-oriented tools that you can use in your homeschool. Many of them have fun sound effects and songs to make them more enjoyable to listen to. (Who likes that annoying buzzer, right?)
I have compiled a list of websites below that have tools for keeping track of time. Some sites have only one tool featured while others have everything except the kitchen sink. (I’m sure they’d try to fit that in if they could.)
I hope you find these virtual clocks handy in your homeschool.
Online Timers
e.ggtimer.com – This timer is easy to use. Simply type in the time you want and click Go. You can also type in words like morning for a morning workout or brushteeth for a 2 minute timer with a verbal reminder.
TickTockTimer – Use the number pad provided to enter a time and click Start. I love the sound effect for this one.
Online Stopwatches
chron me – A very simple yet classy looking stopwatch. I’d use it for my workouts.
Arantius Stopwatch – A basic, easy-to-use stopwatch.
Online Alarm Clocks
Music Alarm Clock – With this online alarm clock, you can choose melodies like a Beethoven Sonata or “Here Comes the Sun,” OR you can select a radio station.
Kuku Klok – I love the name of this one. With this Swiss made alarm clock, you can choose from a variety of sound effects including a classic alarm clock, a rooster, a military trumpet, and more.
MetaClock – This is by far my favorite alarm clock. It has some awesome songs like “Good Morning,” “Good Morning Beautiful,” and a popular song from my younger days, “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.” (I guess that dates me. 😉 ) You can also upload your own song if you weren’t raised in the 80’s.
Online Everything but the Kitchen Sink
TimeAndDate.com – This site has a load of resources including a timer/alarm, stopwatch, current time, time zones, a calendar and more.
TimeMe – Offers both free and paid services. Current free ones are a chess timer, an alarm clock, and a timer/stopwatch with some cool sound effects like Wow, Laughter, Clear Throat, and Kids Tune.
Timer-tab – This simple yet elegant page includes a countdown timer, an alarm clock, and a stopwatch. If you mouse over the gear, you’ll see that other options are available including pop-up notifications (you have to allow these), a place for you to enter your own Youtube song (like the Tim Hawkins piece, Homeschool Blues), and a background.
OnlineClock.net – The homepage for this site shows the current time (in red on black) and doubles as an alarm clock. You’ll also find links to other options including a timer, stopwatch, countdown, counter, radio, and backgrounds. Backgrounds include everything from a roaring fireplace to a washing machine. I’m not sure that I’d like the latter on my desktop though. No offense to the creators, but I’d just as soon not be reminded of the housework that needs to be done.
Online-Stopwatch.com – This site boasts a lot of tools including a timer, stopwatch, metronome, classroom timer, chess clock, talking clock, and more.
Feel free to share this list of online timers with other homeschoolers.
