Do you have a budding Mozart in your home?
Or do you have a child who wants to play an instrument?
If the answer is “yes” to either of those questions, or if you simply want to teach your children about music, you’ll probably want to teach them how to read music.
What follows is a list of websites that have resources for teaching children (or teens or adults) how to read music. Some of these sites have online games for practicing note reading and others have printable flashcards and worksheets. All can help your children learn to read those little dots that dance across the paper.
Resources for Teaching Children to Read Music
PlayKidsGames.org: This is an online note reading game. The player clicks on the correct keys of the keyboard as the notes on the staff go by.
MusicTheory.net: Online lessons, trainers (games), and utilities are available on this site.
Music Teacher’s Games: This site has a variety of online music games for note reading, rhythm, and more.
Read Music Free: This site has a free tutorial as well as online games and tools.
Music Racer: You’ll find online games for note names, fingerings, and music terms on this website.
Classics for Kids: The Classics for Kids site has four different music games including a Note Name Game.
Funbrain: Play The Piano Player Game Starring Pianomus Platypus on Funbrain.
Teaching Ideas: This page on the Teaching Ideas site has the fun and fast paced Name that Note game.
Music Tech Teacher: Free lesson plans, worksheets, quizzes, and an interactive keyboard with songs to play are available on this site.
Opus: Get free printable music worksheets and flashcards on this site.
Making Music Fun: This site has free, fun note reading worksheets such as crosswords, codebreakers, and coloring pages.
