I have a list of sites for you today that have free historical maps you can print for educational purposes.
Some of these maps are full-color, digital reproductions of the originals while others are blackline sheets designed for children to color and label.
These freebies are perfect for teaching history, geography, or both combined.
Tip: If you want to save on ink, you might want to have your children look at the maps online only. That also enables you to zoom in to see the finer details. 😉
Free Historical Maps
Old Maps Online: Find old maps for pretty much any location in the world on this site.
University of Texas Libraries: The Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection has a large assortment of historical maps.
Library of Congress: The LOC has 25 collections of maps you can access. Also check out their Zoom Into Maps section designed specifically for learning.
David Rumsey Map Collection: This is a growing collection of historical maps from around the world.
USGS: This topographic map explorer has tons of maps that can be downloaded and printed.
University of South Florida: Educators and students can use up to 25 maps from this site in non-commercial school projects.
Ancient World Mapping Center: This is a link to the free maps available on this site.
Pearson-Prentice Hall: Check out the Online Map Bank for free, printable blackline maps.
D-maps.com: D-maps has free printable blackline historical maps that are perfect for kids to write on.
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt: You’ll find a small collection of U.S. historical maps on this page.
