Spring, summer and fall are good times to teach your kids the constellations. The weather is nice enough to go outside and look for those starry pictures in the night sky.
If you want to prepare your kids for a night viewing, I have some playlists with short videos about these patterns of stars that you can show them.
These playlists cover both the myth and the science behind the constellations. Kids will learn about ancient Greek mythology and different types of stars. One playlist also includes information about the size and expansiveness of the universe.
I hope your family enjoys watching them and observing the night sky.
YouTube Playlists About the Constellations
Space Science: Introduction to Stars by Crash Course Kids – This playlist starts with videos about the universe in general, then later covers types of stars and constellations in the night sky. It includes some of the more interesting ones like Draco, Hercules and Pegasus as well as those of the zodiac.
The Mythology and Astronomy of Constellations by Free School – Each of the videos in this playlist starts by asking viewers if they recognize the constellation shown. It then continues with an explanation of where to find it in the sky, tells the myth behind it, and gives some scientific facts about it. Current constellations covered are Orion, Cassiopeia, Scorpius, Leo, and Taurus.
I hope your kids learned a lot from these YouTube playlists about the constellations. If you know of anyone else who would like to show these to their kids, please, share this post with them.
