If the history of writing is on your syllabus for this year, I have some short but informative videos you might want to use.
These videos combined cover a lot of information about the story of writing. They go as far back as Lascaux Cave in France and continue through the written history of Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, China and other cultures. They’ll show your learners how pictographs and phonemic alphabets were developed and used. They’ll also share with them the influences of various people in history.

This is an entire playlist with 12 videos that cover a lot of information about writing. The 47 minute video at the end of this playlist is a compilation of the previous 12 so you can choose to watch the shorter videos over a period of time or just sit down and watch the long one.
