Do you want to share the events of this day in history with your kids?
This activity can make a good addition to your homeschool Morning Basket or history lessons because it’s an opportunity for your kids to review events that you’ve previously studies and learn about some new or lesser-known people and events
I have a list of websites for you today that have This Day in History sections. Some of them also enable you to choose a particular day in history.
Keep in mind that these sites may have controversial events or topics that conflict with your personal beliefs. For that reason, you may want to read the posts ahead of time before sharing them with your kids.
This Day in History Sites
History.com – The History Channels site has a video, lead story, and list of events for each day in history.
Britannica.com – This section of the Encyclopedia Britannica site has a featured event, list of other events, featured biography, and a list of births for the current day. You can also select other days in the year if you like.
Library of Congress – Click on the current date to read articles of important events. The Learn More section under each article has links to other articles, newspaper clippings, primary sources, and documents in the Library of Congress.
OnThisDay.com – Read a list of events from ancient to modern times on this site.
timeanddate.com – You’ll find lists of events, births, and deaths on timeanddate.com.
