If you’re looking for inexpensive instruments your kids can use to practice playing rhythms on, hand drums will fit the bill. Unlike drum sets, these instruments don’t take up a lot of room and are easy to play. You can even pull them out when studying a culture that uses simple drums.
I have a list of drums for you below that are, as of this writing, all under $15. Any of them will make a nice addition to your collection of homeschool music resources.
