If you like the Montessori system for teaching reading, you might be interested in moveable alphabet apps. Like a physical moveable alphabet, they have color-coded letters that help children learn to read. Unlike the hands-on letters, they teach letter sounds without the need for an adult to be present.
I have a list of apps such as these for you here today. They work on iOS and/or Android devices. While most use standard print letters, you’ll find that one uses D’Nealian and another uses cursive.
